Make your image Google search background

Google has added a new feature to let the users to set a background image of the Google Search Homepage. However this feature is only available to Google account holders. The users must be signed in to be able to change the default white background.

Click on the change background image link on the bottom left corner of the page. This will open a javascript overlay window with images which can be used as background image. Click on the From my computer option and select the image of your choice. The image will be uploaded to your Picasa Web Album. If you have more than one album, you will have to select an album to which the image is to be uploaded.Alternatively you can also use an image from your Picasa web album also. There is also a good collection of images in the Public Gallery. Select an image and your are all set.

The final result is much more refreshing and more appealing. Using a black image as background  will also decrease the energy usage of the Google homepage.

Use must be signed in to be able to see the background image. Once you sign out the image reverts back to the default background.

Look like Google has taked a step further than Bing by allowing users to set their favorite image as the background. Lets see what Bing will come up with next.
