Run Linux Inside Windows

I have always loved the idea of running two or more OS on one pc. But I've never actually run my pc for long with 2 OS. I couldn't handle the complexity of such things. Now that I have found a way to run any other OS in windows, I could taste the different Linux offerings available and that too from the comfort of Windows. I will show you how to run Windows or Linux or any other operating system in a Virtual Machine.

We'll be using a software called 'VirtualBox' from Oracle for this. There are lots of similar software available on the internet. To start you'll need an Image file (.iso.nrg.img.mdf etc) of the operating system you would like to install. Most of the image files of Linux distros are available online. But for Windows you'll have to create an image file from the CD/DVD of windows. For that we can use any free Burning software like ImgBurn.

Run VirtualBox after installing.Click on New > Next, Here select the OS you are gonna Install, Next. In the Memory Column I suggest giving atleast a value 1/4th of your Ram. Click Next ,Create new hard disk. Click Next, now 'Create Virtual Hard Disk wizard' opens. Click Next, select Fixed-size storage (other wise you wouldn't  you will run out of Disk space quickly). Click Next, now select the size of the hard disk and also give a location to sore the .hdd file. I suggest sticking with the recommended 10Gb. Click Finish, now a virtual hard disk is created.

Now you need to Start the virtual system created. Click Next in the 'First run wizard' after Clicking on the 'Start'. You can either install from a CD/DVD or from an Image file. After selecting the source click Next, then Finish. Now your Virtual Computer will start. You can run the OS as you would with any other computer. To use the mouse or keyboard just click on the screen and you'll be able to use them.
