Blackle : The energy saving Google

Google has become a vital part of our daily tech life. The name has more meaning other than the worlds largest search engine. It is Google who taught us to use search engines for our every need. Let it be a complex maths homework or a simple dating tip, we just 'Google' it.
A testimonial to this is Google's homepage design, which aims only at one thing - 'Search'.But the search engine giant has also been criticized for this very design. That is, the white background of Google.com uses far more electricity than a black page.

In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. Since then there has been skepticism about the significance of the energy savings that can be achieved and the cost in terms of readability of black web pages. Thus originated 'Blackle.com'
As you can see, this is a redesigned version of Google, a black background that is, by heap media and are powered by Google Custom Search. So everything you search at Blackle.com is like searching at Google.com but by using less electricity.Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black.
